How to use dot grid paper
- Choose A4 or US Letter to match the sheet in your printer, then choose Vertical or Horizontal.
- Set your margin and pattern settings. The preview updates when all values are valid. Switching units converts the displayed measurements.
- Select Print / Save as PDF, or download an SVG with physical page dimensions. Restore Tool Defaults returns to ordinary paper; Restore This Preset reloads the selected task preset.
Adjustable settings explained
Dot spacing is center-to-center distance; Dot diameter is full mark width and cannot exceed spacing. Pattern color changes the marks. Dots have no Line width control.
- Dot spacing
- Default: 5 mm. Allowed range: 2–30 mm.
- Dot diameter
- Default: 0.6 mm. Allowed range: 0.2–2 mm.
Practical uses
Plan a weekly spread, align hand lettering, or sketch a small tracker. Count the spaces between dots when sizing sections.
Printing tips
Start with 12 mm margins and one test page. If a printer clips the edges, increase the margin. Increase Dot diameter or darken Pattern color if dots are too faint. Saving a PDF uses the browser print dialog; there is no separate PDF service.
Common problems
If dots disappear in print, increase their diameter or darken their color. Tiny dots can be lost in printer draft mode.
Invalid inputs display a message and pause updates. Fix the value to refresh the preview. The generator never rescales a pattern to fit a different paper format.
Frequently asked questions
Will this generate my weekly plan?
Only dots are generated. Draw headings, dates, tasks and boxes by hand. For faint dots, increase Dot diameter or darken Pattern color.
Does preview size match the printed sheet?
The preview scales to fit your screen. SVG dimensions use millimeters, but the browser and printer must also use the selected sheet size and 100% scale. Use Print Accuracy Helper to check your own physical output.
Are my settings uploaded?
No. The generator computes the sheet in your browser. Export Settings downloads a JSON backup and Import Settings restores it locally. Remember settings on this device is optional; it saves valid settings for this tool in localStorage. Clear Saved Settings removes that saved copy without changing the current paper. Restore Tool Defaults and Restore This Preset turn saving off and preserve your previous saved copy. Example presets are carried in the page URL and do not replace an existing saved layout unless you enable remembering again.
