How to use Cornell notes
- Choose A4 or US Letter to match the sheet in your printer, then choose Vertical or Horizontal.
- Set your margin and pattern settings. The preview updates when all values are valid. Switching units converts the displayed measurements.
- Select Print / Save as PDF, or download an SVG with physical page dimensions. Restore Tool Defaults returns to ordinary paper; Restore This Preset reloads the selected task preset.
Adjustable settings explained
Cue column width is inside the drawing area. Summary height is measured upward from its bottom. Only notes are ruled. Validation leaves at least 50 mm notes width and 40 mm notes height.

Practical uses
Take notes in the right column, add recall questions on the left, and summarize below. Cover the notes when reviewing the cues.
Printing tips
Start with 12 mm margins and one test page. If a printer clips the edges, increase the margin. Use a darker color or wider lines if the pattern is too faint. Saving a PDF uses the browser print dialog; there is no separate PDF service.
Common problems
A cue column that is too wide leaves little room for notes. Reduce it, or switch to Horizontal for a wider writing area.
Invalid inputs display a message and pause updates. Fix the value to refresh the preview. The generator never rescales a pattern to fit a different paper format.
Frequently asked questions
Does this summarize a lesson?
No. Write notes on the right, cues on the left and your own summary below. The output is a blank study structure.
Does preview size match the printed sheet?
The preview scales to fit your screen. SVG dimensions use millimeters, but the browser and printer must also use the selected sheet size and 100% scale. Use Print Accuracy Helper to check your own physical output.
Are my settings uploaded?
No. The generator computes the sheet in your browser. Export Settings downloads a JSON backup and Import Settings restores it locally. Remember settings on this device is optional; it saves valid settings for this tool in localStorage. Clear Saved Settings removes that saved copy without changing the current paper. Restore Tool Defaults and Restore This Preset turn saving off and preserve your previous saved copy. Example presets are carried in the page URL and do not replace an existing saved layout unless you enable remembering again.
